The evenko Foundation and The Molson Foundation are collaborating to make a significant donation to the Montreal Cello Ensemble.
Thanks to the evenko foundation, six brand-new cellos have been added to the fleet of instruments available to the students. A gift valued at $25,000 that will allow the young musicians to play on instruments perfectly suited to their growth. The Molson Foundation is lending a helping hand by also offering $25,000 for the maintenance and repair of the cellos — because every instrument deserves to stay in top shape.
For the 35 young cellists present, the moment was magical. Their usual rehearsal took on a festive air: instruments set aside, amazed expressions, and proud parents witnessing this announcement filled with generosity.
The Montreal Cello Ensemble offers far more than musical training. Students learn to improvise, to compose, to collaborate… in short, to let their creativity take flight. A mission that aligns naturally with that of the evenko foundation, committed to giving children the opportunity to thrive through music, no matter their financial circumstances.
Professors Geneviève Guimond — cellist with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra — and Josh Fink emphasize how essential it is to have quality instruments to support young people in their learning. Thanks to this donation, that need is met, and the momentum of the program is stronger than ever.
“The unveiling of the instruments is an opportunity to celebrate the efforts of young people as well as to support their teachers who encourage them to compose and express themselves through music. We are proud to contribute to this program by donating cellos that match their talent,” said Roman Oryschuk, Chair of the Board of the evenko foundation.
According to Andrew Molson, President of The Molson Foundation: “this initiative with the evenko foundation is an example of collaboration between foundations that we should see more often.”
A beautiful reminder that when the community comes together, music always finds a way to help those who play it grow.
