In front of more than 500 people gathered at Théâtre de la Cité Universitaire, the evenko foundation unveiled, on May 26th, a donation of musical instruments valued at $34,000 to De Rochebelle School in Quebec City. The announcement took place during the students’ year-end music concert.

Recognized for more than sixty years for its music programs, De Rochebelle School welcomes hundreds of students each year through its seven concert bands, stage band, and symphonic ensemble. As enrollment continues to grow, the school was facing a significant shortage of instruments, with its last major purchases dating back to the 1980s. This donation will notably allow for the addition of two alto saxophones, two tenor saxophones, two trombones, two double French horns, and two euphoniums, giving more young people the opportunity to practice music on quality instruments.

A memorable evening for the students

The unveiling took place in a festive and emotional atmosphere, directly at the heart of the students’ year-end celebrations. Before the concert, several students directly impacted by the donation had the opportunity to attend an exclusive presentation of the new instruments alongside representatives from the evenko foundation.

At the opening of the concert, Ms. Audrey Boulianne, music teacher at the school, introduced the evenko foundation to the audience before inviting Ms. Liette Lamonde, Executive Director of the foundation, to proceed with the official donation announcement. The students who had attended the earlier presentation then came on stage to unveil the instruments in front of the hundreds of spectators in attendance. These same students also had the opportunity to use the new instruments during the concert, giving full meaning to this initiative supporting the school’s next generation of musicians.

“ Thanks to the donation from the evenko foundation, our students will have the chance to work with brand-new, durable, accurate, and enjoyable instruments to play. It would have taken twenty years of concerts to raise such an amount! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts, we will think of you every time one of these instruments is used. ” - Audrey Boulianne, Music Teacher at De Rochebelle School

“ Knowing that these instruments will support students for many years to come and that they were able to be used during this very concert makes this moment especially meaningful for the evenko foundation. It is a privilege to be able to concretely support these young people in their journey and passion for music. ” - Roman Oryschuk, Chairman of the Board of the evenko foundation

A gesture with a lasting impact

Thanks to this donation, nearly 350 students will benefit each year from improved access to new instruments adapted to their musical learning. The school will therefore be able to continue offering a stimulating environment without having to limit enrollment in its music program.

At De Rochebelle, music plays an important role in the development of young people. Guided by passionate teachers, students have the opportunity to experience enriching artistic experiences throughout their academic journey.
