The Théâtre les gens d'en bas, throughout its history and still today, is an important actor of the cultural and community development of the Bas-Saint-Laurent region. Beyond its professional mandate that is the production of creative theater and the promotion of Quebec and international works, the theater aims to enable adults and youth to be exposed to the arts with effective supervision. But also, to simply live an enriching and formative experience. This is done through various types of activities that the theatre oversees: community productions, training workshops, professional support to other cultural groups and professional coaching in order to produce their creations on the stage of the Théâtre du Bic.
Since 1991, some 500 people have participated in over twenty productions, requiring more than 250 hours of work per production and often carried out in partnership with local institutions, collectives and schools. Among the youth seen here, some are currently graduating from theater schools or working in related professions. This presence in the community is essential to the company's influence, creates a sense of belonging, pride and contributes to the development of the community.
